As I reflect on my journey from the Marine Corps to the tech industry, I am often asked why I chose to join Skydio. It’s a question that cuts to the heart of what motivates me: a commitment to innovation and a drive to support our nation’s defense capabilities.
A Deep Interest in Technology and Innovation
My career began in the U.S. Marine Corps as a helicopter pilot, where I had the honor of serving in various capacities. Some of my most recent roles included Deputy Director for Public Affairs and Director of Marine Corps Production. During these experiences – leading teams of content creators, web developers, and media professionals – I learned the value of cutting-edge technology and strategic communication in supporting military operations. My time in the Marine Corps instilled in me a deep appreciation for how we can best leverage tools that enhance operational readiness and effectiveness.
After transitioning from government service, I had some amazing opportunities to work with leading technology companies like Adobe and SAP National Security Services. At Adobe, I was the Head of Public Sector Industry Strategy and Marketing, where I saw firsthand the transformative power of digital solutions in government enterprise and Defense. At SAP, I helped build a marketing and communications team from the ground up, driving growth and innovation in secure technology solutions for public sector and regulated industry customers.
Why Skydio?
The decision to join Skydio was an opportunity to take a big step in making a difference that matters. Skydio’s mission aligns perfectly with my passion for innovation and service. The company is at the forefront of autonomous drone technology, offering solutions that are small, smart, and impactful. These attributes are critical in today’s defense landscape, where adaptability and mission-effectiveness are paramount.
One of the standout features that drew me to Skydio is the new X10D drone, now on the Blue UAS Cleared List. This AI-powered drone represents a significant leap forward in a capability to conduct multi-domain operations. Equipped with advanced sensors and autonomous capabilities, the X10D provides outstanding situational awareness and operational efficiency. But, it goes beyond just the X10D drone; I was motivated by Skydio’s vision for the future of data capture to protect and improve lives.
An even bigger impact on my decision to join Skydio is the quality of people at the company. Skydio's team comprises some of the brightest minds in the industry, all dedicated to pushing the boundaries of what’s possible. This commitment extends beyond just technological innovation; Skydio’s culture is deeply rooted in giving back to the community with programs such as Skydio For All.
Moreover, Skydio’s dedication to veterans, both within the company and through personal initiatives, resonates strongly with me. The company actively supports veterans, providing them with opportunities to leverage their skills and experience in new and impactful ways.
Supporting the DoD and Beyond
Skydio’s commitment to supporting every branch of the DoD was another major factor in my decision. The company’s technology is not only groundbreaking but also crucial in enhancing the readiness and effectiveness of our armed forces. X10D, with its ability to operate in contested environments and provide real-time intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR), is a game-changer for military operations.
Moreover, the collective expertise and dedication of Skydio’s world-class team ensures that we are not just keeping pace with technological advancements but leading the charge. Being part of a team that is driven by pushing the boundaries of what’s possible is very much in keeping with similar motivations I found during my time in the Marine Corps.
Looking Ahead
Joining Skydio represents more than just a career move; it’s a commitment to a vision of the future where autonomous technology will play a pivotal role in national security. It’s about being part of a company that values innovation, supports our military, and continually strives to make the world a safer place.
